Dallas Partial Hospitalization Program

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a step down from a full inpatient program and a step up in care from an intensive outpatient program.  Ideal candidates for a PHP are people suffering from drug or alcohol addiction who have completed an inpatient rehab program and are looking to step down their level of care.  A PHP can also be useful for patients looking for an alternative to a 30-day residential program but still desire the highest level of treatment available.

This level of care typically provides 20 hours or more of service a week for multidimensional instability that does not require 24-hour care. The PHP still offers onsite housing and access to staff 24 hours a day. Generally, PHP is for clients that have completed the detoxification program.  Clients at our Dallas Partial Hospitalization Program have access to all therapies, counseling, and aftercare support, for a minimum of six hours per day, five days per week. Partial hospitalization treatment is the most intensive form of outpatient care.

Although this can vary from client to client, most individuals in our Partial Hospitalization Program participate in treatment five days per week, which shows just how similar the intensity of a partial hospitalization program can be to a traditional inpatient program.

While we typically only offer residential accommodations to individuals in inpatient care, clients participating in our partial hospitalization program also have access to residential accommodations upon request.  Because of this, most of our patients in the PHP program live in a sober living facility or at home with their family.  We recommend that people in the PHP only live at home if it is a safe and sober environment to minimize the patients exposure to drugs and alcohol.  It is crucial during this phase of recovery that the patient is not overwhelmed with stressors or triggers that can precipitate substance abuse.

Treatment Modalities

When you arrive at Riverwalk Ranch you’ll undergo a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation that looks at your substance abuse history, co-occurring mental health disorders, and ongoing medical issues. This initial assessment ensures that you receive a customized care that will effectively address your needs. In our treatment program, you’ll work with a primary therapist and multidisciplinary team to collaborate on your individualized treatment plan, focusing on your interpersonal strengths, rehabilitation needs, assessments, and preferences. Your customized treatment schedule is revisited throughout the program stay to look at your treatment progression and to make sure your level of care is still clinically appropriate.

As part of the treatment plan the client may participate in any number of these recovery-oriented services:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)

  • Traumatic Incident Reduction Therapy (TIR)
  • Relapse Prevention
